Almost 25% of Arizona is Indian Reservation.

Mad Greek Cafe Parking Lot. Baker, CA.

Quick boon-docking stop. Quiet, no problems.

Grand Canyon West, Overnight Parking Lot.

We were the only ones there. Helicopter ride into the canyon the next day. Definitely one of the trip's highlights.

We heard some coyotes during the night and in the morning they were out there feasting on a mule deer that they had apparently brought down

My first helicopter ride! Took off from the visitor's center, flew about 10 minutes down the canyon, landed, took a boat ride down the Colorado River and then flew back out. Although many advertures were still in store ... I think this was probably the trip's highlight.

Back on the canyon rim where we went out on to the famous skywalk.

Truck Stop, Wikieup, AZ.

Quick overnight boon-docking stop.
The truck drivers are amazing - they can pull into some really tight spots.
De Anza RV Resort, Amado, AZ.

This place had a 38,000 square Foot Clubhouse! Pickle ball, pool tables, ping pong tables, bar. Just amazing. The place used to be a Greyhound race track back in the day.

I think I might move out to Arizona. Get a burro. I'll take her out to the desert and we'll look for gold and stuff. It'll be great.

Madera Nature Trail
Our RV site is just on this side of that mountain.

What the heck is she doing way over there!?

Yes, there really is a bird called the Mexican Jay.

Arizona Woodpecker, you can tell them by their brown back.

Valley Vista RV Resort, Benson, AZ.
Bisbee
Incredibly there are over 2,000 miles of mining tunnels underneath Bisbee Arizona. That's like from LA to Chicago!

Chiricahua Natl Monument
Fantastic place. Reminiscent of Pinnacles National Park in California but MUCH bigger. The pictures don't really capture its grandeur but, that said, I think this one is pretty good.

Lost Dutchman SP, Phoenix, AZ.

Booked this place at the last minute and managed to get the best spot in the whole campground. Rained here one night and the roof leaked. Had to make an emergency trip to buy a tarp. Hopefully the sealant I put on will prevent a re-occurrence.

Tuscon Sweetwater
Vermilion Flycatcher - one of my favorites.

I find it a little unnerving when a Great Horned Owl looks right me.

A construction masterpiece.

Lost Dutchman SP

This is the morning after it rained. High clouds and low fog.

Rancho Sedona RV Park, Sedona, AZ.

Palatki Heritage Site
Old Indian petroglyphs. Probably 10 miles down a dirt road.

Red Rock State Park

Goulding's Campground, Goulding, UT.

Campsite is surrounded by a reservation. On checkin they told us not to leave our shoes outside at night because the neighborhood dogs steal them. Indeed we saw them coming out at twilight to start their rounds. Bastards.

Monument Valley
I've always wanted to go here and I was not disappointed. It's all on the reservation and so you have to stay on the road - can't hike around. But that's ok it was wonderful. Went into the really nice visitors center and they had lots of Navajo rugs for sale and man, they're expensive, 12 ft. x 14 ft. is $38,000.

Page Lake Powell Campground, Page, AZ.

Antelope Canyon
Antelope Canyon is called Tsé bighánílíní, 'the place where water runs through rocks' by the Navajo People.

In 1997 eleven tourists were killed here by a flash flood. Very little rain fell at the site that day, but an earlier thunderstorm dumped a large amount of water into the canyon basin 7 miles upstream.

Entrance into the Slot Canyon

Canyon Exit

Glenn Canyon Dam
It just defies the imagination that they can build something like this. The conversation goes something like this; "Joe, go get that rope in the back of my truck. You can use it tomorrow to dangle down from the edge while you guide the arch into position. Don't worry it'll be fine - just don't look down."

Horse Shoe Bend

Vermillion Cliffs

Trailer Village RV Park, Grand Canyon Village, AZ.

Got down to 24°F at night but the heater in the basecamp kept us nice and toasty.
